Where Do We Look When Crisis Comes?
(Isaiah 22)

In Isaiah 22, Isaiah turns his attention from the surrounding nations to Jerusalem, where a crisis reveals where God’s people place their trust. In the midst of uncertainty and trouble, they are confronted with a question that remains relevant to us today: when crisis comes, where do we turn? As we consider Judah’s response to the crisis before them, we are reminded that even when our circumstances are beyond our control, there is a deeper question of where we place our trust and where our true security is found.

When God's Word Seems Slow
(Isaiah 21)

In these oracles about Babylon, Edom and Arabia, Isaiah 21 brings Judah into a world where nations rise and fall, questions are left unanswered and the future can change quickly. Yet, Isaiah does not give God’s people a complete map of what lies ahead. He brings them back repeatedly to what the LORD has said. Even when much remains uncertain, God’s Word remains sure.

Where Do You Seek Refuge?

In this series of oracles directed against Philistia and Moab, Isaiah warns Judah not to look for refuge in nations who themselves need refuge. Philistia mistakes the changing of circumstances for security. Moab is brought low, yet remains too proud to receive the refuge that the LORD provides. In the midst of this, Isaiah points us to where true refuge is found: a King whose throne is established in steadfast love.

Glory That Will Not Last

Isaiah 13-23 contains a series of oracles concerning the nations and the world around Judah. The first begins with Babylon, a kingdom that would become feared for its power and admired for its glory. Yet, Isaiah shows us the downfall of human pride through Babylon's fall, as well as God's compassion for His people and the reality of His unfailing purpose.
