The Elders must be men who have a sense of calling to the role, have a track record of proven character, and be competent in teaching God’s Word. Most of all, they must be those whom Christ himself has called, and Christ himself has qualified through his grace.

The Responsibilities of Elders

Elders who are called to be shepherds, overseers and examples, are called to know God’s people, feed God’s people God’s Word, lead God’s people and protect God’s people. They can do so because the God who calls them to this role is also the God who has known them to their core, and yet feeds them the Gospel, leads them to himself, and protects them to the very end.

The Role of Elders

God calls Elders to be shepherds, overseers and examples for his people. Done well, this leadership leads to the good ordering of the church and the spiritual flourishing of her people. Elders can only serve in this way as they look to the chief shepherd, overseer and example, Jesus Christ.
