Prepare the Way of the Lord
Luke 3:1-22
by Joseph Tern

John the Baptist came into the scene in this passage as the last of the Old Testament prophets. His message of repentance challenged the presumption of the religious people in his day. Ultimately, this prepared the way of Jesus Christ, the Messiah who identified with His people in His baptism.

What Child is This?
Luke 2:40-52
by Tan Huai Tze

The only childhood account of Jesus in the Bible shows us that Jesus knew clearly who he was and what he had come to do. He, being like us in his humanity, and yet completely unlike us in his divinity came to give us life to bring lost sinners back to the Father’s house.

Redemption Song
Luke 1:57-80
by Tan Huai Tze

In the story of redemption of Zechariah, we learn that God's path to redemption often goes against social and cultural convention. It is his prerogative to redeem, and those he is redeeming are to respond in faith and obedience. God's redemption is sure because it is firmly anchored in the ancient covenant promises he has made to his people. And finally, God's purpose for redeeming a people for himself is that he might forgive them of their sins, free them from their oppression and enable them to serve him without fear.

Renewing Our Hope
Luke 1:5-25
by Tan Huai Tze

One reason why we might lose "certainty" (Luke 1:4) or confidence in our lives is because we have lost hope through disillusionment or disappointment. God can renew our hope through the unlikely story of the conception of John the Baptist. In this story, we see God's plans prevail over pain, unbelief and impossible circumstances. The path to renewing our hope is to press into what God has done for us, not what we do for God.
