The Prayer of Our King
John 17
by Joel Sim

In His final farewell prayer, king Jesus prayed that He will be glorified and for His people to be kept from the influences of the world. For those who continue to remain on earth, Jesus prayed for their unity, and commissioned them to proclaim and be witnesses of the Gospel to the ends of the earth.

Joy in the King
John 16:16-33
by Tan Huai Tze

As the disciples prepare for life without Jesus, he promises them a joy that takes their sorrow into account and yet can never be taken from them. It's a joy they will know only when they come to realise that his resurrection puts in motion a reversal of all that is sad, and confirms their reconciliation with God the Father.

Helped by the King
John 16:4b-15
by Tan Huai Tze

God’s people will face a hostile world as they go out with a message of the Gospel. But God has not left them without help. He sends the Holy Spirit to continue the work of Jesus, convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgement, and complete God’s Word to them.

Hated like the King
John 15:18-16:4
by Tan Huai Tze

Being hated by the world is a mark of the follower of Jesus, it shows that we are on mission for Jesus, and it’s how we mature in Jesus. We endure this hatred when our hearts gaze at the one who was hated and killed for us, so that we would always be loved and live forever.

Abiding in the King
John 15:1-17
by Joel Sim

Jesus tells us that He is the true vine, and in our union with Him, we become intimately related to our Saviour. We derive our means of life and nourishment from Jesus. This changes our relationship with Him, such that we are no longer His enemies, but we are now His friends.

Obeying the King
John 14:15-31
by Tan Huai Tze

Another mark of Jesus’ people is obedience. But this is not any kind of obedience: it’s an obedience that is enabled by love, empowered by the Spirit, and established by the Cross.

Believing the King
John 14:1-14
by Tan Huai Tze

God’s people are to be defined by trust in God, and in Jesus his Son. This faith brings us home to where our hearts belong, connect us with God as our Father and gives us a great work to do.

The People of the Servant King
John 13:1-17
by Joel Sim

In the introduction of Jesus' parting words to His disciples, He demonstrated His great and enduring love to His disciples by washing their feet. In doing so, Jesus is identifying Himself as the Servant King who came to redeem His people. He sets an example for His disciples to follow, and as believers, we are exhorted to do likewise and to serve one another in love.
