The Bible commends both work and rest as good gifts from God, yet we find it hard to rest deeply because our souls are raging. The Gospel shows us that we can rest because God is our creator and has established a rhythm of work and rest for our good. More than that God is our redeemer who has rescued us from sin and our need to prove ourselves. And God is our sustainer who now works in and through us by his Spirit even as we rest.

The Bible shows us that work is inherently good because God himself is a worker, and he has made people in his image to be workers. He rules and cares for the world through human beings who work in various vocations. But, work is also grim because of the curse of the fall - there will not be full fulfillment in our work here on earth. Yet, through the Gospel, God is renewing all things, including our work.
